The New Mexico State
Interoperable Communications Working Group (SICWG) held a meeting on November
3rd and November 4th, 2009 in Albuquerque at the Marriot Pyramid
Hotel North. Over a hundred federal,
state, county, city, and tribal representatives from around New Mexico got
together to discuss interoperable communications.
The meeting kicked off on Tuesday
with a status update for communication vendors on interoperable communications
throughout New Mexico hosted by NMDHSEM followed by an information session for
new SICWG general members.
On Wednesday
the day was packed with updates, training, and information sharing sessions. The keynote, which set the tone for the
meeting, was presented by SICWG Core team members Don Scott, Mike Scales, and
Gary Surad and focused on how communications is part of both planned and
unplanned events/incidents. The
attendees spent the rest of the day in training sessions that focused on
interoperable communications. The day
ended with DHSEM Secretary John Wheeler.
